CX4 Flare Drive update .523

I have heard from one source to update drive firmware before doing flare.

Is that correct or do you do flare lcc then drive fw?

i would upgrade the flare first and then the firmware. I saw a couple of solutions on PowerLink that mention failed firmware upgrade because flare had to be patched to the latest release. This one was an interesting read: emc281409

So, the latest is not always the greatest .

I did the process like last time starting with flare and lcc's all went smooth, except for the same 28 drives that will not do online firmware update.

Went back to the offline disruptive wizard in engineering mode and cannot find the same file 1tb_300j_005048829.fdf.

It must put it in the vault when it unpacks 1tb_300j_005048829.ndu.

Today EMC got the po for exchanging out the 5300 for 5700, maybe now they will move support on cx4 from dell to EMC.

I think purchasing stopped everything until the 5700 was settled.

Thanks for the tip on primus 281409. The cx4 is not in production, and I have wiped it several times for performance testing and to learn.

honestly i don't ever upgrade drive firmware, unless there is some serious issues. Flare and DART sure ..drive firmware ..not so much

We were having drive failures on the 15k drives untill we upgraded fw and havent had one fail after that.

one of the drives they replaced 2 times and the new drives came with red label instead of blue.

We only have block on cx4.
