How about PowerPath Migrator ? It's a free license from EMC.

you should still be able to purchase SAN Copy license, but CX300 you would actually need to purchase one for CX300 and for CX4, so PowerPath might be a better alternative.

you would need SanCopy/E on CX300 and regular SAN Copy on CX4 to perform incremental push.  If you can keep the system down to perform cold pull i guess that's ok for some customers.

So now I am looking at using powerpath migration enabler host copy.  What I gather is that as long as the customer is using powerpath to manage there clariion I would be able to use it to migrate the data.

Don't forget to check that the zoning currently in place does not contain zones that have two SP ports in the same zone if using San Copy - it's not supported.

take a look at this document, page 34, you have to have a licensed copy of PowerPath in the environment.

yes, make sure they are running a version of PowerPath that supports PowerPath Migrator enabler.

this is what EMC tech support has to say:

"It will work regardless of using Powerpath For Multipathing.  So you can just use MMPE without using the "regular"flavor of Powerpath.  I'm guessing that is why it's a seperate license key.  But if the customer is running Powerpath for Multipath already on the hosts then all you need is the correct key for PPME and then it will allow that function to work.  But if the customer is not running Powerpath, you can still use just PPME to migrate the data as long as you have a key."

They really need to get their facts straight.

You can enable anything on a DELL | EMC SAN that you can on an EMC branded SAN.

I used to work for Dell and know for a fact that you can as I have done it for customers many times!

It wasn't expressed in the ticket which FLARE codes were involved, but I think it matters.  Another department had a Dell-braded CX300 that was upgraded to a CX500, to match an EMC-branded CX500.  They wanted to run SANCopy between the two, but were unable to enable SANCopy on the Dell, but could do so on the EMC.  Why?  The SANCopy enabler failed during the installation.  The Dell installer worked on it for almost three days before giving up.

The Dell-branded CX500 was running FLARE 19 at the time.  When it was later upgraded to FLARE (I believe it was 24 - I don't know; I wasn't involved), they discovered that the enabler for that version did indeed work.  I don't if it's the case with this setup, but the Dell-branded CX definitely cared about the FLARE version to get the enablers running.

Perhaps the Dell models needed a completely different enabler?

Nope, it is the same enabler. There is no difference between a CX500 with a Dell badge and one with a EMC badge. Could have been a corrupt enabler or the wrong version for the particular revision of FLARE 19 running on the box. I have seen enabler installs fail becuase of that.
