Designing disk layout for CLARiiON CX3-40f

We have a new CLARiiON frame and will be migrating some HP-UX hosts with Oracle databases to it. We are thinking about creating RAID 5 groups, with 8gb (roughly) luns making up a METAlun that is striped across multiple RAID 5 groups (lun from different raid groups).

Just wondering what those CLARiiON users would think of this.

a good start would be by looking at EMC best practices for Oracle ..search powerlink for "clariion oracle" ...you will see a couple of white papers come up that might be of interest.

It would also be a good idea to detail the drive types as well

e.g. Fibre or ATA

ATA ? Please don't tell me you're seriously considering ATA for production !

EMC "best practices" recommends using ATA drives for Oracle archivelogs.

Woooow, I'm definately learning a thing or two each time I visit the forum. I always thought ATA was only for sequential I/O, meaning streaming video or backups. Never thought archive logs are a sort of streaming as well, because for random I/O ATA is a lousy choice.
