EMC VSS Provider / EMC Solutions Enabler kit

Question

Hi All,

We recently updated all our CX3-80 systems to FLARE 26 without any problems

I am now looking for 2 things, which I hope you guys know where to find:

1) Apparently the old VSS provider doesn't work anymore. I am looking for a download location of the EMC VSS Provider
2) According to the text below my post, I also need something called an EMC Solutions Enabler Kit. What is it and where can I find it?

The two products were mentioned in this PDF I stumbled upon:

About the CLARiiON VSS Provider
The CLARiiON VSS Provider allows an application to access SnapView
functionality on CLARiiON storage systems by using the VSS
framework and other APIs introduced in Microsoft Windows Server
2003.

As of release 6.26, the CLARiiON VSS Provider is no longer supported
with the Admsnap Utility. The substitute for this technology is the
EMC VSS Provider.

The EMC VSS Provider requires that you install the CLARAPI application, which is available as part of the EMC Solutions Enabler kit. You can download both the EMC VSS Provider and the EMC Solutions Enabler kit from the Powerlink website. For more information, refer to the EMC Admsnap Release Notes, the EMC VSS Provider Release Notes, and the EMC Solutions Enabler Release Notes.

Hi Dynamox,Wow, thanks for the fast answer!I have no idea how I could have overlooked that: We've looked with 2 people for that.Two questions though:1) The VSS provider I downloaded (Version 4.0): Can I use that for Clariion systems???2) The solution Enabler only seems to be for SYMMETRIX systems. Is there a specific solutions enabler for CLARIION?Thanks again!Fred

i don't know ..i've only used syminq/sympd list to query disks on the host but i don't think you can actually manipulate Clarrions with symcli. It would be nice though ..one tool to manage both platforms.

Never tried to manage a Clariion with SE yet, but I think it is possible.

you sure can:page 10 of release notes: Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ T-Z ~ Documentation > VSS Provider > Release NotesI far as i know Solutions enabler is only for managing Symmetrix/DMX ...i am not sure why you would need it in Clariion world. Ohh ..i see what you are talking about ..page 6. I guess you do need SE 6.5 to get those CLARAPIs installed.Message was edited by: dynamox

segment from VSS release notes:Solutions Enabler EMC VSS Provider version 4.0 requires that EMC Solutions Enabler version 6.5 or later be installed. If EMC Solutions Enabler version 6.5 or later is not detected, the compatible version will be installed along with EMC VSS Provider. Symmetrix® arrays managed using EMC VSS Provider must be running Enginuity¿ 5x68 or later. Note: EMC Solutions Enabler is a set of application programming interface (API) libraries that provide an interface between software applications and the heterogeneous hardware and software infrastructure within a storage environment. It also includes a command line interface (CLI) that works on Windows, Open VMS, and various UNIX platforms. Authorizing connectivity in Solutions Enabler Components within your storage environment, such as CLARiiON storage arrays, require authorization information to provide Solutions Enabler access to them. The SYMCLI symcfg authorization command is used to supply this information. The Authorization section included under the Configuration Requirements for your specific storage array provide instructions.

Hmmm...Strange indeed:When I install the VSS thingy, I get (Whether I like it or not...) a lot of SYMMETRIX stuff installedI guess the VSS tools comes with a Solution Enabler Kit as wellI have no idea what to do with it to be honest What does the a Solution Enabler Kit provide on a Symmetrix? I actually just found a 'EMC Solution Enabler v6.0' box in my collection of stuff that came with the Clariions (Shrinkwrapped still ) I'm leafing throught the documentation, but it only refers to Symmetrix's it seemsFred

Fred ....i would download documentation from Powerlink ..documents that come in those nice and shiny boxes are usually a couple of months old

That works, but is seems no config can be done. At least, not as far as I discovered so far.

Time for a manual

I can't get it to work

It seems (can anyone confirm ?) that I need FC access to the Clariion, just like you'd need a gatekeeper for a Symm. And that why I think it doesn't work from my notebook.
