Finding CX version installed on vault drives without proper SPE

Hello again,

Is there a way to find the FLARE OS version which is installed on the vault drives without having the proper service processor hardware?

Just bought (yes, from ebay:) ) a bunch of DAEs and one of them has the yellow sticker on the first 5 drives which makes me think if there is really a FLARE OS installed or the sticker has just been added there for whatever reasons.

I have a CX3-20 spare SPE and one half-dead SPS so I thought: would it possible to connect this DAE to the SPE, boot it up, plug in the DB9 cable and...hope that I could figure out if there is really a FLARE or not and if yes, to which CX does it belong...what do you think? would this possible? Do you have any other ideas ?

Regards,

Raul

It would be possible using the serial cable and monitoring the boot process - I think with will state what flare is installed, but it's been a long time since I've tried this, so I can't be 100% sure.

Will try that once I get a micro db9 cable and come back with the feedback.

A bit of topic, is there a way to force FLARE update while the system has errors?

Nope. You can still try it if there's no DATA on the disks, it will fail but who knows you might get lucky!
