Flare Code 30 Thin provisioning overhead compared to thick provisioning?
Hi,
We have a new CX4/480 array that uses Flare code 30 thin provisioning.
Will the thin provisioning feature put a greater overhead load on the Storage Proccessors?
We have several CX3-80 arrays using the normal Raid Groups (thick provisioning) and it seems that the SP utilization level on the CX 4/480 is higher given the same workload.
Thanks,

What do you mean by higher? Can you share the numbers? I would not expect much more overhead (like super tiny) for times where the LUN needed to take more space (similar in fashion to a database autogrow). If I were you I would look at the performance data on the hosts attached to both arrays and compare the differences against the array performance data. I suspect what you are seeing is difference in actual workload.

There is overhead for Thin Provisioning but we do not have any real numbers other than it will add overhead.
