How to replace a CX3-10c SP?

Question

I have a SP which is stuck in the BIOS check (fault-light blinking every 4 seconds).

I have been told to replace the SP.

Since this is not under support, I will need to pick-up spare SP from some vendor.

Questions:

1) Other than specifying a CX3-10c SP, is there any difference between a SP-A and a SP-B unit? Can a SP go into either slot?

2) Do I have to do any configuration to make the existing SP realize that a replacement SP has showed up in the other slot?

3) Will the existing SP recognize and use the new SP or do I need to do anything in navisphere/unisphere to get it to recognize and accept the new SP in the other slot?

4) Does this invalidate or cause any issues with the Vault drives? Will the new SP boot correctly from the existing Vault drives?

5) Is there anything I need to be aware of if I just purchase and install a new SP into the array? Any custom configs or steps I need to know about?

We did try to clear your doubts in the last thread..let me make anither effort by clearly answering your q's step by step hope ill be succesful this time :

Ans : NO there is no difference. Storage Processors (SPs) are configured in pairs for maximum availability and are Field Replaceable Units (FRUs). SPs provide both front-end connectivity to the hosts and back-end connectivity to the physical disks. Each Storage Processor also includes up to 4 GB of memory, most of which is used for cache

2) Do I have to do any configuration to make the existing SP realize that a replacement SP has showed up in the other slot?

NO configuration is required. The SP should be properly seated in the slot and the array should be up and running.

3) Will the existing SP recognize and use the new SP or do I need to do anything in navisphere/unisphere to get it to recognize and accept the new SP in the other slot?

Once its propertly seated array will recognise the new SP

4) Does this invalidate or cause any issues with the Vault drives? Will the new SP boot correctly from the existing Vault drives?

yes it will boot correctly

5) Is there anything I need to be aware of if I just purchase and install a new SP into the array? Any custom configs or steps I need to know about?

Go ahead with the purchase once you receive the sp onsite. Replacing a SP will not change the WWN. The world wide number is associated with the Storage Processor Enclosure - new SP will get the same WWN - so no worries at all. The wwn is kind of software generated by the "backplane" of the Clariion and has nothing to do with the Storage Processors themselves.
