Looking for Power Down Instructions for CX4-240

I know a Power Down guide came with the SAN but I cannot find it and need to create a emergency power down playbook for the SAN. Any EMC guides or user created Power Down guides?

Thanks!

Brennan,

If you power down the DAEs before powering off the SPS (which shuts down the SPE and DAE-OS) then the array will lose connection to all the disks in the enclosures powered down. This would be very bad.

The proper procedure is to shut down the Storage Processors (essentially the array itself) by using the power switches on the SPS. When the power switches are triggered on the SPS this sends a signal to the Storage Processors to fllush all data to disk and shut down. Once the SPS, SPA, SPB, and DAE-OS have powered down, then and only then is it safe to power down the remaining DAEs attached to the array.

Hi Brennan,

basically swap over steps 4 and 5

  1. Stop all I/O to SAN
  2. Wait 5 minutes after powering off the last host attached to the SAN to allow write cache to finishes writing to the disks.
  3. Power off Storage Switches (McData 4400)
  4. Power off SP enclosure and DAE-OS using power switches on the SPS's
  5. Power off NON-OS DAE’s by manually unplugging them.
  6. Power down Power Strip, grey first then black.
  7. Unplug all power cords from power strip.

Hi Brennan,

I may be too late, but I've attached a document we wrote long ago that is still valid even for newer clariion models.

Hope you find it useful.

Cheers, Paolo.
