LUN needs to be formatted after formatting the server

Try to select the disk and import it. This is required when moving disks from one server to another. Since the server was rebuilt, it is essentially a new server.

where is the import option? If i'm not mistaken, it might be in the disk management. But again, how can i do so?

Thanks for your reply, I don't exactly recall if it was basic or dynamic. All i can remember is that it offers formatting inorder to open the disk (LUN).

does it differ a lot ?

if it were a basic disk it would show up as a normal disk and you would simply need to assign a drive letter to it, with dynamic disk you would need to import it but if my memory serves me well ..it actually says "dynamic" disk. While you were rebuilding the OS, the system was still attached to you array and that LUN was still in the storage group ?

Yes it was still in the same SG, didn't change anything from the Clariion's side.

I heard from colelagues of mine the following will be helpful. I have no experience with these 2 commands myself, so I'd google a bit about this automount command if I were you:

- Automount disable
- Automount scrub

I was told you need to use these commands before attaching the HBA's.

Rob, what are these commands ? I don't recognize them as windows.

any errors in Event Viewer ? I hope it's not the case ..but you did not accidentally format this LUN during Windows installation ?

Guys, i'm lost here. I don't have dispar nor i formatted the LUN during installation. all what happened is that i formatted the server and when i attempted to assign the same LUN that was assigned to it before i formatted it, it prompts me to format the disk in the "disk mamnagement" and i don't want this to happen as i need the data inside this LUN.

I would like the answer both if this was a dynamic disk or a basic disk.

so when you look at the disk in Disk Management ..it it blue or black color ?

Get the LUN out the Storage Group
Install the server inclusing service packs and everything
Open DOS box
Start diskpart (it comes with sp1 AFAIK)
Run the automount commands
Attach the LUN in the Storage Group again

You should be ok now.
