monitor bandwidth used
Hi,
I have a Clariion CX 300 and I have a server that has a mapped drive to the SAN. This is a Windows 2003 server. There's a database that's located on the SAN and I'd like to monitor the bandwidth that's being used.
I know that the SAN provides a speed of 2 GB.
How can I monitor my server to see how much of the bandwidth is actually being used?

You can have a look at this

you can monitor specific problems with refrence to the disk i/o if you go the performance logs and alerts .

We have a fibrechannel switch and it should be capable of doing 2 Gb between the HBA host and the SAN. When they build this stuff, they must have some way to test the bandwidth.
Anybody else know of any monitoring software??

Are you concerned about the performance of the switch or of the array? I have yet to see a fabric become a bottleneck, but have definitely seen the array become a bottleneck when monitoring application performance.
The reason I ask this is that monitoring the amount of a 2Gb path used by a server in a SAN fabric will not give you an accurate view of the performance of your SAN. Some of the best methods for measuring the performance of your SAN in relation to a particular server is the monitor the LUNs assigned to the server using Navisphere Analyzyer. The read and write i/o, and the write MB/s will give you a good indication if the SAN is a performance bottleneck.
