Move LUN to New RAID Group

Is it possible to move a LUN to a new RAID group on a CX600? I am in the process of cleaning up/reorganizing our storage environment and need to move LUNs around to some newly added RAID groups.

Thanks for your help!

unfortunately yes ...when we went from 7 to i think 12 ..it was an offline upgrade, then we went to 16 (current at that time). Like you said PowerPath, Naviagent, maybe qlogic/emulex drivers need to be upgraded as well.

Yep, the LUN migration is a nice feature. The RAID types and spindle counts can be different, you just have to make sure the target is at least the same size as the source. It is a non-disruptive process to the host.

That is very old FLARE, there have been a lot of performance and stability improvements, not to mention major release of FLARE since then.

And yes, LUN migration was introduced in FLARE 16 I believe.

You should contract with EMC to get that upgraded. It will take a few upgrades to get current, you will not be able to go directly to the latest rev of FLARE.

I am new to EMC so please elaborate on what the process is using the LUN migration feature. Do I access that through the Navisphere web interface? Another question is how do I tell what version of Navisphere I have? When I log in the screen says Navisphere 6, but when I pull up the storage system properties and go under software it shows:

Flare OS - 02.07.600.5.027
SnapView - Blank
NavisphereManager - Blank
NavisphereAnalyzer - Blank
AccessLogix - Blank

All of them do show a status of Active.

Thanks for your help.

wow ..that's pretty old release 7 of flare. I don't think the LUN Migration feature was introduced until version 15 or 16. Yes ..you would access it through Navisphere interface

Should the upgrades be non-disruptive? I have been talking with our EMC support rep and it was identified that the entire array would need to be taken offline for the update and that all of the hosts with PowerPath would need to be updated as well.

Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately I inherited someone elses environment and their incompetence is causing me a lot of late nights to fix it!
