Multiple arrays showing alert codes for the same HBA
I have 3 arrays (340, 480 and a 960). This morning I logged to Navisphere and there are 5 alerts. The alerts are broken down as follows:
2 alert codes 0x721b (one from the 480 and one from the 960), stating "HBA (WWN) on Host (WWN(WWN)) may not be connected to a storage group. This HBA is not able to access LUNs that belong to its server."
3 alert codes 0x7211 (one from each array) stating "Server (WWN) has some HBAs that are active (logged in) but not registered with the storage system. Active (logged in) but unregistered HBA connections are not able to access LUNs on the storage system."
The issue at hand is that the WWN being reported on all of these alerts is the WWN for the VSAN we have configured on our 'A' side Switch (Cisco 9509), VSAN100. Meaning if I go to Cisco's Fabric Manager, select the switch and highlight VSAN0100 on the Logical Domains view, the VSAN WWN listed correspond to the one in the alerts. All of the alerts were generated last night. I've verified the configuration on the switch has not changed.
Why would this alert come up at all? Is this even a valid alert I should be concerned about?

i have the same thing, my MDSs will login to my ports on Clariion, VNX and VMAX. You can either ignore them or register these WWN as a dummy host.

You can also run "NO SCSI-TARGET DISCOVERY" on the switch. Once you have reset the ports for storage (Admin Down/Up), the switch will no longer try to do a FLOGI/PLOGI into the array and thus the Connectivity Status will automatically clear after a few seconds because the Unknown connections were not registered on the array.

Do a shut / no shut of the Switch interfaces where CLARiiON SPs were connected to resolve this issue. VSAN WWN no longer listed as logged into SPs.

I know this post is over a year old now - but I've recently come across the same problem in our Environment. The VSAN WWNs appearing in Unisphere/Navisphere.
Is this in anyway related to the firmware on the Cisco SAN switches? We're running 5.0(4d) which is a few years old now.
I'm trying to champion a Firmware upgrade - so this could be another point to add to my cause.

I'm guessing from the lack of replies that no one has a good answer for this question. It's always a good idea to have the most current firmware on the switches. If your FW is quite old, you can check with EMC switch group to see if there are issues with the older FW.

Glen,
It was a long shot and I must admit, I’ve never seen this issue on any other site before.
I have started the initial qualification process for the Firmware upgrade and have just added this as another reason why we should be doing it.
