Naviseccli command for shutdown Clariion :)

Hi Guys,

I need to shutdown the Clariion CX400 but unfortunately I cannot do it physically and there is no one available to do so seems the environment is in some Jungle

So would there be any remote command using naviseccli for shutdowing the array or powersupplies ?

For e.g :

C:\Program Files\EMC\Navisphere CLI>NaviSECCli.exe -user sxxxadm -password DocxxxxsJu -scope 0 -h 130.143.xxx.xxx shutdown -o

Or if there is none , then what happens when there is a sudden powercut to the clariion, does it shut gracefully and be back Online when the power is  up ?

I know this is not the best of the ways to do the shutdown but I am not really in a position to hope for that

Thanks

Rahul

Hi  Rahul,

You can use the following syntax and try if you can shutdown the array :

1) naviseccli -h _spa shutdownpeersp

2) naviseccli -h _spa shutdownsp

However the proper way to power down a CLARiiON CX Series array is always power down the array by shutting off either the main breaker in the rack itself or by powering down the SPS units. NEVER power off an array by killing power on the power supplies themselves. The power supply switches are more prominent on the CX600 array than on other model arrays and are visible on either side of the XPE itself. They should never be powered off directly because doing so would bypass SPS protection and could lead to a cache dirty condition if any data was in write cache at the time.

Dear Suman,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I fully understand the best practise to shutdown the array but this was something where I didn't have any control over the DC or the environment.

Unfortunately noone of the commands worked to shutdown the box and I actually got error regarding the privlege to run the commands, so I guess we required engineering password on the box to run these commands.

I just left the box as it is after the powerdown , so it shutdown after the battery was all down and came back up gracefully when the power was back

So Ia actually had the box tested for disaster scenarios

Thanks again for your help

You can use the following syntax and try if you can shutdown the array :

1) naviseccli -h _spa shutdownpeersp

2) naviseccli -h _spa shutdownsp

Above commands works only on AX4-5 and CX4 Series. Refer to older Version of NaviCLI Admin Guide, in new one both arrays are given as examples.

Only prerequisite to shutdown the array via CLI is one must have a user account on the storage system on which one wants to execute the command to shutdown the SP.

Moreover, you can check your role on the array by follwowing command:

naviseccli -h security -listrole

I understand you do not have physical access to the array. However, for your future referene you can download CLARiiON Procedure Generator from powerlink.emc.com which describes the recommended procedures:

Home >               Support >               Product and Diagnostic Tools >               Procedure Generators >          CLARiiON Procedure Generator

CX200/400/600 and XZ300/500/700  do not support shutdown from CLI command. Only CX4 and higher and AX-series.
