navisphere-cli and pp configuration on SLES

Hello,

It is my first post on this forum.
I am a bit green with emc host-based software, so plese forgive if my question is cross-purpose.

I would like to know How should I set up the Navisphere environment on SLES 10 SP1 (or SP2 if possible) to be able to administer cx3-20f with cli?
I don't see such an option in my naviserverutilcli?

/opt/Navisphere/bin/naviserverutilcli

Welcome to Navisphere Server Utility - version : 6.24.0.6.12

Select from one of the following options: or Select '0' to exit the application.

1. Update Server Information - Select this option to send information about the server to all connected storage systems.

2. Snapshot Tasks (Navisphere Express only) - Select this option to perform Snapshot tasks on the source server or the secondary server.

3. Generate high availability report.

4. Display help for the application.

I have configured sync mirror betweent two arrays.
Is it possble that in case of primary image lun failure,
the secondary image will automatically be promoted to the right hosts?
I assumed that PowerPath (my Version is 5.0.1 (build 22)) will detect and handle it, but I see no way to send
"promote sec image" instruction to the second array.

Could somebody clarify this issue to me? Do I need any additional software?

Regards
darek

hello Darek ..welcome to EMC forums.

I don't have experience with SLES but it will assume it's very similar to RH. I just wanted to get more details what you have setup so far. So your systems are attached to your storage array ? Did you use Navisphere agent or did you register hosts manually in Navisphere ? If you installed navi agent ..did you also install navi cli ?

I registered hosts manually in Navisphere.
I do not have host agents.

ex.
The mirrored LUN primary image resides on first array. I added this image to the
storage group. The secondary image resides on second array, but it is not included in any storage group right now.

I would like to avoid manual promoting of secondary image to primary image in case of failure in first datacenter. What is the best practise for such a scenario?

you will need to install Navicli package which includes "Naviseccli" utility that will allow you to manage the array via the network.

Is it possible to download it through powerlink site?
I tried to find it in:
Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > CLARiiON Tools > CLARiiON CX and CX3 Series ,
but with no result....

OK I found this. Thanks a lot.

What I was looking for is the command:

mirror -sync -promoteimage

did you look in Navisphere cli guide for your flare version ? I just looked in the guide for flare 24 ..and don't even see the mirror command you mentioned. Maybe it's in the guide for flare 26.

You need the MirrorView CLI - go to:

Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ J-O ~ Documentation > MirrorView > Maintenance/Administration

Look for the the version of CLI that you want - Sync or Async.

Also there are Admin Guides and Release notes for MIrrorview there as well.

I would also recommend that you get the KnowledgeBook for Mirrorview:

I found mirror -sync -promoteimage command in MirrorView_Sync_CLI Reference 03.24 and 02.24 A09,which I assumed is for my flare.

Nevertheless I am a bit confused about the software packages. my Flare Code is 03.24.020.5, version is 03.24.020.5.016.

I am not sure which version of Navisphere Host Agent (Linux) is the most suitable for my flare:
v6.26.7.0.81 or
v6.24.5.0.4

Do You know how should I adjust the CX_Software range >= in /etc/Navisphere/SupportedFlareRevisions ?
By default it contains the entry:
CX_Software >= 2.19 AND CX_Software < 2.28, which does not fit to my flare ver at all.

i personally prefer to match my cli/agent to version running on the array. Would it work with 6.26 ..probably yes, but to keep it simple, stupid ..i would load 6.24.

i think it fits it right ...2.24 (6.24 in your case) is greater then 2.19 yet less then 2.28
