NST update for CX300

Yup, that's correct ! In fact I solved it for my personal problem (I have access to the partner site on Powerlink) and I downloaden the file and put it on the drive manually. Now the update through the taskbar works fine It works for CX3-10 as well as CX3-20. I haven't seen CX3-40 or 80 in a while (unfortunately), but the problem might be there as well.

I'd create a SR or call EMC about this. Calling your CE or service partner helps as well.

The CX300 can be upgraded to Flare 26, so 19 is quite old.... The most recent code is "02.26.300.5.011".

If you start NST and choose to upgrade the Flare code, NST checks for this Flare on Powerlink (credentials are checked) and if all goes well, NST should download it for you. However, about 2 months ago, NST had a bug that it was looking for the Flare code at the wrong URL or something. So I downloaded it manually from Powerlink and put it in "C:\EMC\repository" or the sub directory where the other downloads reside.

If you're a partner, you should be able to find any Flare on Powerlink. If you're an end user, contact your CE to provide it to you.

When you state that you put it on your drive manually what exaactly do you mean? I've been trying to figure out how to upgrade my flare code from 16 to 19 so I can start using the NST but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it. The array is currently idle with no luns defined so now would be the time but I haven't figured out how yet. I've upgraded my other CX array but they were already at 19. I saw a mention of an "Off Array Utility" but I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks for your reply. I only wanted to go to 19 since I have upgraded from 19 to 26 on two other CX devices. I have access to the flare files via pPowerlink but when I run NST (6.26) it tells me: "Note: You will require assistance from an authorized service provider to upgrade this storage system". It will then download the software and go through its checks but when it actually comes time to install the .pbu file it won't. It fails on the diagnostic collection step and talks about SP utilization, which is an odd since this storage array is idle. It is not even connected to a switch at this point.

While I'm not oppossed to using a CE and I have done so in the past I find the cost the Dell/EMC wants to charge for this service to be extreme and as I don't sign the checks I would like to be able to do it myself.

I am anxious to see the replies to your thread...I am in the same situation with two desparet CX systems, both pre FLARE 19. I have already upgraded everything I could to prepare for the FLARE upgrade, but now i am stalled. Good luck.....

I think I figured this out. What I did was to install the following (which I downloaded from Powerlink) on a Windows PC that was on the same subnet as my storage device: Windows_UIs_6.16.0.4.67.exe, Windows_ManagementServer_6.16.0.4.67.exe and Software_Installation_Wizard_6.19.2.6.0.zip. I don't know if the first two were necessary but I figured it couldn't hurt. I then extracted the software from the zip drive to my local drive, not a network drive! I then double-clicked on this file: SIWStart.htm and it started up a web/java version of the software installation wizard that can run from the SP, except it was running on my local computer. I went throught the wizard and used this bundle: CX300-Bundle-02.19.300.5.045.pbu and I was able to update my CX-300 to Flare 19. I had to commit the software when I was done but it worked. I was then able to use NST to update the CX to Flare 26.

Before the NST came out you needed to use the SIW - a standalone tool you installed on your management workstation. This was the Software Installation Wizard - you use this to upgrade older flare R14 to R16 or R14 to R19. The newer NST replaced this tool, but sometimes it will not work well with the older flare.

As others have said before, of you download the flare package from PowerLink to your local workstation and then run NST, you point to the local copy - this helps.

If you can't see the software on PowerLink check to see that you have registered the software on PowerLink.
