powermt report some errors while Navisphere says that's all OK

Hello,
we have a CX-500 with 4 dae. It serves to RedHat clusters.
Navisphere doesn't report any problem (and the application runs ok)
But if I issue the command
#powermt display dev=all
I see some errors
---------------- Host --------------- - Stor - -- I/O Path - -- Stats ---
### HW Path I/O Paths Interf. Mode State Q-IOs Errors
==============================================================================
2 QLogic Fibre Channel 2300 sdc SP A1 active alive 0 1
2 QLogic Fibre Channel 2300 sdf SP B0 active alive 0 0
3 QLogic Fibre Channel 2300 sdi SP A0 unlic alive 0 1
3 QLogic Fibre Channel 2300 sdl SP B1 unlic alive 0 1

Can someone suggest me what should I investigate?
Thanks,
Romy

It looks like you are running Un-licensed version of PowerPath (called Utility kit PowerPath or Basic PowerPath) - which does not provide any HBA level redundancy and load balancing feature.

The output shows two paths under HBA at slot # 3 are unlicensed.

Utility-kit PowerPath (un-licensed version) is meant for single HBA system zoned to both SP ports which will provide SP level redundancy - but not for systems with multiple HBA.

If you have valid PowerPath license, please install the license and check.

This is not an issue on the CLARiiON end - thus you don't see any problem on NaviSphere.

You may monitor the powermt output while some IO is going on - most likely you will see all IO going through one path only using HBA slot # 2 (either to SPA1 or to SPB0 depending on whether the LUN is owned by SPA or SPB respectively). The paths under HBA slot # 3 will not be used at all.

Please note this is my understanding, others may correct me if required.

Thanks,
Sandip

If you do not have the licensed version of PowerPath you should block or remove the two unlic paths on the switch. We've seen issues with failover and connectivity when you have unlicensed paths connected.
