Can Some one please share a document or steps to do migration of SQL cluster with active node, passive node and quorum with PPME including the physical connectivity and failover of nodes.

Thanks

cluster resources other than the quorum can be migrated online using PPME, you will need to use Microsoft procedure to migrate the quorum.

Hello sanman99

=For using PPME on a Microsoft Cluster, you have to make sure it is installed and licensed on the Active Node

=Make sure All the other nodes are powered off

=Select  your source and target devices pseudonames e.g. harddisk1, harddisk2 etc

=Run the command Powermig setup -src [SourceDisk] -tgt [TargetDisk] -tt hostcopy   <----- if you are using PPME with Hostcopy

=Once you get the handle in the above command run the command "powermig sync -handle X"

=Run the query "powermig info -all"

=Once it is 100%sync state will change to SourceSelected

=Run the command "powermig selecttarget -handle X"

=Run the command "powermig commit -handle X"

=Run the command "powermig cleanup -handle X"

I have to make document before execution. Please forgive for my minute questions on pre migration and . I am migrating from cx to vnx.

1. I have 2 nodes and quoram for SQL cluster. First I uncable the active node( it fails back to passive node) install PPME, reboot it. and cable/zone this active node to VNX.

2. How to migrate the quorum. Do the MS server guys present to do failback between nodes and migrate quorum.

Regarding the presenting of the Clariion/VNX luns, you can present them to both the Nodes after doing Cabling and Zoning. Let them be cabled/zoned while you follow the above mentioned procedure.

Once Migration is complete and cleanup done and you are satisfied that all the resources are now on the Target Array, you can unmount the drives from the source array, you can remove the luns from the storage group in Navisphere of the Source Clariion and once the host no longer sees the luns, you can unzone and uncable them.

You do not have to uncable.

1. Using Microsoft Cluster Admin GUI, you can failover the resources to the passive node.

2. Go to Add/Remove Programs on the Node where you want to install PPME and click on Powerpath and click on change/modify. If the PPME feature is not already installed, install it and reboot the machine and make sure you install the license for PPME on that node.

3.  Now failback the resources to that node and power down the other node.

4. Follow the  procedure i gave earlier using PPME for all other disks except the quorum disk

5. For Quorum migration use the Microsoft Cluster Admin GUI to move the Quorum to a different disk.

6. If you are from the storage team, then yes Windows team Engineer should be available to failover and failback the resources as mentioned above.
