stripping pros/cons.

Currently we have concatinated the clariion LUN's at Volume manager level. Now we have new set of LUN's from clariion. We need to migrate the old concat volumes to stripe volume on new set of LUN's.

Is there any pros/cons for using veritas stripping with clariion LUN;s

Tammy,
I don't have any experience with veritas volume manager, some others on the forum do and hopefully they will provide some feedback. But the general recommendation on layers of RAID is to implement no more than two layers of RAID to create a volume. For example creating multiple RAID 5 groups and striping LUNs across them would be acceptable and could provide increased levels of performance.

1 (meta)LUN has a single handle from the HBA. A Single I/O queue so to speak.
If you give the host multiple LUN's, each LUN has it's own queue and the whole set (managed by the host / Veritas) uses multiple queue's and is therefore faster.

The more the better.
But find a comfortable way "somewhere in the middle", because you don't want to give your host 250 LUN's or something. Making a few metas and giving your host something like 60 metas provides:
a) still 60 queue's
b) easies management of the LUN's

IIf management is of no concern: the more LUN's the better.
