Unable to access http:///setup

Question

Hi all,

After spending a few frustrating hours trying to learn how PowerLink works (or more aptly doesn¿t seem to work) I¿ve given up hope and decided to trouble you fine folks.

I am dealing with a Dell-branded Clariion CX400. This is a new to me device, but been around (and unused) for ages. So I am essentially discovering the device and attempted to bring it to life.

Here is the most noteworthy problem I believe. I cannot launch the /setup URL no matter how I approach it. Other aspects of the system (both processors) seem fine in many regards, but the /setup will not display, error message in FireFox is ¿Connection reset¿ and Internet Explorer gives the typical DNS error (despite the fact that the device answers on port 80).

Below you¿ll find a complete list of the troubleshooting steps I¿ve taken. Your assistance, questions and general input are greatly appreciated!

Connectivity testing:
SP-A via null modem/serial:
Navisphere loads successfully.
http://192.168.1.1/debug loads successfully.
http://192.168.1.1/setup FAILS to load (Connection reset)

SP-B via null modem/serial:
Navisphere loads successfully.
http://192.168.1.1/debug loads successfully.
http://192.168.1.1/setup FAILS to load (Connection reset)

SP-A via TCP/IP and the SP¿s NIC:
Navisphere loads successfully.

http://x.x.x.x/setup FAILS to load, but does prompt for username/password first! (Connection reset)

Launching Navisphere 6.4.1 and authenticating (doesn¿t matter if using serial or IP on either SP):

New application! Navisphere Service Taskbar v6.24:
* Can authenticate using this tool, asks for username and password.
Attempting the Hardware Maintenance section¿s Verify Storage System it fails at Initializing.

New application! Navisphere Storage System Initialization
Attempting a discovery (yes I made sure I was on the same subnet, I even tried a crossover cable and by serial) generates the error ¿No storage systems discovered¿

Go to the debug page and find:'Reset CIMOM state and restart CIMOM'click this to restart CIMOM - this is the process that drives the GUI.glenk

There may or may not be data, but it isn't important (not in production at this time).I have tried with the SATA enclosure disconnected, doesn't seem to make a difference.

Command: Get Array; Exception: Could not get fru of disk's hot spare; have you defined hot spares on the array, possibly on ATA enclosures?(you can define ata hot spares though)

just try to boot with first enclosure and just first 5 disks (the ones with stickers asking not to remove them)

I have booted with the first enclosure (just the enclosure OS disks) - the SPs all post and start (as they do when fully connected) - but the array is still [Unknown] via Navisphere and the event logs items are still present.

So I know the SPs are in working order (at least from a boot perspective). But they can't seem to talk to the array in any meaningful fashion.

Cannot get anywhere to define spares via the Navisphere GUI and if there is a way through the hardware I haven't found it to try yet.

since you are in arizona, would you be able to call EMC directly? i m not sure if you can do that since you purchased system through DELL.

Yup! Even removed SPs to see if that was causing a problem.

After working with Dell EMC for a bit (still not resolved though) I am relatively certain we have the enclosure back to factory default, but no joy.

Interestingly, checking via emcremote it shows that the atapi and Hpt366 drivers are failing to load. Given that I have a SATA enclosure I'm wondering if that is why I can't see the array?

Both of these drivers are for ATA hard drives, perhaps that is why we cannot see the storage array - no ATA support when needed?

Guess: I think the applog error is why /setup can¿t run ¿ any time it attempts to gather info it blows chunks.

Guess: Notice that the ATA drivers aren¿t loading? Since I have a ATA enclosure perhaps this is why we can¿t see it?

Question: Are there any documents there that talk about steps needed to configure the WinNT so it can see ATA enclosures after imaging perhaps?

Lastly, I fiddled around with navicli.

Guess: Sounds like my SPs are imaging and booting fine, but they can¿t see the ATA enclosure?

will you be able to paste sp boot events in here?

when you talked to dell rep, did they re-image the array? if not ask them to do that...that would bring the array to complete default setting (it wont loose the data afik, just write clean code on the boot disks)

and then boot with just first 5 disks in place....array should respond to it normally..

before that, can you connect to any sp via hyperterminal and null modem cable and reboot that sp? that would give you some important information...if any hardware is prohibiting the array, that would generally come up here
