USM Trouble

Hi, everybody.

While trying to download software update for CLARiiON CX4-120 by Unisphere Service Manager got an error:

Reason: The catalog of files for possible download could not be read.  It may be corrupt or incomplete. Try later or contact your service provider.

In the logfile (Windows default location C:\Program Files\EMC\LOG\USMLAX_STDERR.txt):

Making new "clean" management station with using different version of USM didn't solve the problem. (1.0.5. 1.1.32)

Flare version: 04.30.000.5.523 (the trouble occured even without connection to storage, but downloading disk firware goes fine )

Any suggestion?  Thanks.

    Not exactly.

I can't download any file in software repository. (HostAgents Flare  deb rpm exe etc...)

The error occured when using USM

    1. Start USM

    2. Login to storage (CX4-120) Success. I can gather diagnostic data, view configuration etc..

    3. System Tasks -> Software "Update system software, add a software enabler or update disk firmware."

    4. On this step we can see 3 points "System Software"  "Downloads" "Disk Firmware", select "System Software"

    5. "Prepare for installation" (Step 1) -> wizard started.

    6. RadioButton "Download software and verify storage environment" or "Download software only"  Pressing "Next" -> error in first post.

It seems that it is error in the local repository catalog. The system don't even try to connect to powerlink.

Are you targetting a PBU file?

Looks like it can be a proxy issue. Verify if a proxy is setup. Go to browser and see if you have a proxy set up.

Check proxy settings dialog in USM. Please change it if you have any.

    Can give a try.

Ufortunately no, nothing to do with the proxy. Management Server is NATed to Internet,  in addition, I have successfully downloaded "disk firmware packages".

I even took a "clean" new installation of w2k3 server and install on it fresh USM (different server, different IP segment, different internet provider ) and got the same error. Exactly the same behavior:  disk firmware downloaded successfull, other software - not.

Of course I can manually download software from powerlink and manually update my system, but...

What is it? After all, it worked before! I updated the system at least three times.

And I can successfully download software for VNX/Celerra. Only CLARiiON part is ... damaged?

    CLARiiON CX4-120

    Flare version: 04.30.000.5.523

I do not have a Celerra. I just use USM for download software update for an any version of VNX or Celerra (without connecting to that systems and manually selected software version) (Using menu "Download" before "login"). Just for testing. Internet connection-OK. File permission in local repository-OK(files successfully downloaded and wrote to destination folders.)

But when i try to download any item of CLARiiON software, before downloading, even before listing catalog (I think during reading content of c:\emc\repository) the system got error message described in first post. And therefore - no list of repository - no selection - no download. "Cancel" is the only choice. On filesystem catalog seems ok. Permissions too. There are old files previously downloaded by the USM including previous versions of FLARE, etc.

Ok please remove all the pre existing files on this  c:\emc\repository as repository location needs enough space to accommodate all the downloaded software.

We can try another thing here: Try changing the location of the repositry by doing the following action :

To change the software repository location from the USM:

    1. Click the Preferences icon.

       2. Select Repository, and browse to the new location.

If you are doing so, there are directory name restrictions and some required and optional files that you need to be aware of.

The name of the download directory matches the version of the release that you are downloading. For example, if the version that you are downloading is 6.0.29, the download directory must be named 6.0.29.upg.

The .iso and the .tar files are required in the directory. The name formats for these are:

           - x.x.x.x_image.iso (6.0.29.0_image.iso)

           - pkg_x.x.x.x.tar (pkg_6.0.29.0.tar)

    Can help

Would suggest you to email to software@emc.com. They might help you with some troubleshooting on the existing USM version or will give you a new software link for the same and then you can download that and Use it for Clariion too.

    Thanks
