Will FLARE Upgrade corrupt LUNs ?

We ask a consultant to conduct a FLARE OS Upgrade for us (FLARE 29 to FLARE 30) for a CX4-240 SAN.  We have been got FLARE Upgrade by another company and it went smoothly (They charge more $).

He says that during the upgrade, VMDK files in VMFS volume located on LUNs may be damaged and could not be recovered.  He also suggests us to purchase their product for backing up all VMs before the FLARE OS Upgrade.

We just wonder what is the potential risk for a FLARE OS Upgrade and what precaution / preparation work should have to be done ? Usually, we performed normal backup (via tapes) for all servers connected to SAN and VM backup as well (via vRanger and BackupExecf Agent).

Thanks

If he is using that approach to get you to buy ther software tell him to get lost. Anytime you introduce change there is some risk ...% depends on what you are doing. If you have backups..i would not worry about flare upgrade.
