Windows HBA device driver updates
I have 2 CX700's that I am upgrading to CX3-80's. Before we can do that I need to do a flare upgrade on the existing CX700's. Before we can do the flare upgrade, we are told that we need to upgrade the HBA drivers / firmware and PowerPath on all our windows servers.
What do I need to update on my HBA's and what is the procedure. I have Qlogic 2340, 2342 and 2460 HBA's. Can I just use the SANsurfer install wizard for windows, or do I need to update BIOS, and other things?. As you can see, I know nothing about updating windows HBA's, so any info would be appreciated.

You need to upgrade both the HBA BIOS (Firmware) and the Windows HBA Device Driver on each host. Please make sure you upgrade to the right version - EMC supported ones. Refer to the EMC Support Matrix or consult with EMC Support person for getting more details.
You may also use the Customer CLARiiON Procedure Generator to create a document for upgrading the HBA Driver and Firmware (select upgrade firmware or software) - which will provide you step by step details. You can download the Customer CLARiiON Procedure Generator from Powerlink using the following navigation -
Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > CLARiiON Tools > CLARiiON Procedure Generator.
You may need to upgrade the Navisphere Agent and PowerPath software as well. Navisphere agent may not be an issue at all - but be careful about the PowerPath upgrade. Make sure to upgrade to right version and follow proper process. Refer to PowerPath administration guide for more details for the upgrade process.
Hope this helps,
Thanks,
Sandip
