Active Snapshot without expire time
Hello all,
We got a RAID overhead issue that force the Data store in Emergency mode so all of the stored data can not be read.
What looks strange is the active snapshot do not have expire time. We tried to remove it (by assigning new snapshot profile) with no luck. Any help is much appreciated.
(empty recycle bin, only 1 volume, the real data usage is below 40%)

Hello RizkiDPrast,
What is the Storage Unit Model you are working with and what version Storage Center are you on?
You may review this to see if it helps:

Hello Charles,
Thank you for your reply. I am using Storage Manager Client Version 2020 R1.10 with Storage Center v7.2.31.3 and Storage Unit Model CT-SCv3020.
I've enabled AllowSnapshotsto coalesce into activeSnapshot but it's still expire time not updated
Please let me know if further details is required.

Hello RizkiDPrast,
Article Number : 000177571 (you may need to log in or create an account and log in to view this article)
SC Series: Snapshot Not Expiring Due to Stalled Progression Action

The only method to recover the snapshot (and allow it to coalesce) is to reset the controller that owns the affected history. You can find this controller by looking at the Active Controller column in the snapshot history show or in the pitc show commands.
The article has more info I hope you are able to view it.

Hello Charles,
I couldn't find Active Controller column in the snapshot history. It could be that we have only Top and bottom controller and both are unbalanced (failed due to failover). Restarting system also failed as it's still in emergency mode. Currently, we plan to add more disks, hopefully will be able to remove active snapshot and converting from RAID 10 to RAID 6 to get more space.

Thats not a snapshot because snapshotsize is 0MB. it looks Raid10... which Storage profile is in use for that volume? Show us the statistic tab.

Hello J.B,
Sorry for the late response, please review the following statistic tab. We were using RAID 10. In an attempt to get more space, we created and updated the profile to use RAID 6, but it seems like the free space is still not released (Emergency mode?).

Your Compellent is configured for dual redundancy which is "good" because you can survive 2 disk failures. But this means thats for a performance / Balanced profile its a Raid10 DM(dual mirror == 3 copies).
if you have assign the Balanced profile the system should move older data from Raid10 to Raid6 automatically and consumed way less space.
You have to add more disks and change the storage profile for that volume.

Thanks, Joerg,
Yes, we will add more disks, still looking for compatible disks at the moment. Do you have any suggestions on the minimum size that we need (also we got 10k and 15k disk types, does that matter? )
We still got 4 empty slots
