Getting incorrect disk license count after disk failure
Hi Everyone,
We have a SC40 which had a disk fail. We replaced the disk but the SC40 will not accept the disk because the license is being counted wrong. The system states there are 32 disks licensed but 34 (managed non-spares in use) in used which is not correct. The disk overview page states we have 32 disk and there are 32 physical disks in the system. It appears somehow the disks are not correctly removed when replaced.
Does anyone know what we need to do to get this disk in the cluster?
Dell will not help as the unit is out of warranty and end of life. :( They did however sell us the replacement disk...
Tier 1 is 23 disks with 0 spare at the moment
Tier 2 has no disks
Tier 3 is 8 disks with 1 spare.

Hello Stefannnnnnnn,
What is the SCOS that is running on your SC040? When you added the drives to your SC040 did you use the drive replacement wizard to add the drives? In most cases that I have seen when a newer drive is not seen correctly that you will need to upgrade your SCOS to a minimum of 6.7.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Stefannnnnnnn,
In many instances once a failed disk has been replaced it is still marked by the system as being "managed" which will count against the number of allowed disks. Do you have access to the Web GUI for managing disks? If you do I would select the failed disk in the managed disk folder which will show with a red x.
Right-click on the Enclosure-Slot number and select delete. This will unmanage that disk and allow a new disk to be added.
