Interop mode, It's still not in there is it?

On the brocade 5300 here are the choices of interop modes.

What do you think about McData Fabric Legacy.

We also have sancopy, snapview and mirrorview on the older cx san.

you see when you change interop modes it will be disruptive to one of the switches and you lose some functionality. I was actually thinking about this option where instead of changing interop modes on Brocade 5300, leave it as it is but make sure NPIV is enabled, then enable NPV/Access gateway mode on DS-24M which will turn this switch into a simple pass-through switch. This way you don't have to worry about interop modes, domain ids.   So the things to figure out is whether NPIV is already enabled on 5300 and whether DS-24M support NPV/Access gateway mode.

Note: when DS-24M is converted to NPV/Access gateway mode, all zoning will be gone and have to be re-created on 5300 (can be done ahead of time).  Since ds-24m is your backup fabric i assume it would be much easier to schedule that versus changing modes/ domain id's on 5300. Do you want to pursue this route ?

Yes dynamox I would like to pursue changing the two ds24's or also called 4500's because there are only 3 media agents on that fabric and I did the fw update to the latest that is 09.09.08 10.

On the 5300's the insistent domain id mode is disabled, all of the switches have different IP Add's on same network, the switch all have different names.

The 5300's have different user names and passwords than the 4500. I have the licenses for the 4500's but if it is needed for the 5300's will need to find them.

I think maby I should read up on NPIV and NPV/Access gateway mode.

I think Allen is right, i can't find anything online that says that you can put McData switch into access gateway mode. Dang ..that ruins my whole design , i wanted to stay away from messing with your production 5300. If you can't put McData in AG mode there is no point of enabling NPIV on Brocade.

The NPIV is currently enabled, and this is the help on NPIV from switch 4500.

Configuring NPIV

Node Port Identifier Virtualization (NPIV) is a feature that allows you to assign multiple Fibre Channel addresses (N_port IDs) to a single physical N_port.

The NPIV page allows you to enable and disable NPIV logins and to configure the number of NPIV login sessions that are allowed for a port.

NOTE: NPIV is available only if the N_port ID Virtualization feature is installed.

Use the following procedure to configure NPIV functionality:

1. 
   
2. If you are decreasing the number of allowed logins for a port, set the product offline. To set the product offline, clear the Switch Online check box on the Configure menu.
   
3. Select Configure > Ports > NPIV on the navigation panel. The NPIV configuration page displays.
   
4. Enter a value in the Login field, to specify the maximum number of login sessions allowed by a product. Valid values are in the range 1 to 256.

   NOTE: You cannot decrease the number of allowed login sessions when the port is online. Set a port offline by blocking it, as described in Configuring Basic Port Information.

   
   
5. Click OK to save and activate the changes. The message Your changes to the port configuration have been successfully activated appears.
   
6. If the product is offline, set the product online by selecting the Switch Online check box on the Configure menu.
   

The 5300 NPIV is enabled. On the 4500 it has NPIV, could NPV/Access Gateway be named something else.

The switch does have help on new fw. All zones are setup as F-port.

What about port type?

• Type-The configured port type. Valid options vary by product.
  

• 
  
• G_Port. This displays if nothing is logged into the port and the port is configured to be a G_Port.
  
• F_Port. This displays if a device is logged into the port.
  
• E_Port. This displays if the port is connected to another switch's E_Port through an ISL.
  
• GX_Port. Valid only on loop devices, allows a port to operate as either a Fabric Loop Port, Fabric Port, or an Expansion Port. This displays if nothing is logged into the port and the port is configured to be a GX_Port.
  
• FX_Port. Valid only on loop devices. This setting restricts a port to operate as either a Fabric Loop Port or a Fabric Port
