Is it possible to Manage MDS with Ciscoworks ?

A customer of mine want to know whether he can manage his new MDS's (9134 and 9124) with Ciscoworks instead of Fabric Manager. He wants to be able to make configs with CW (creating aliases, new zones, adding to and activating the zoneset) and do some of performance measuring with it. He also wants to save the MDS configs and be able to deploy saved configs if needed.

Does anyone know if that is possible ? The customer wants 1 management tool, preferably the one he already uses for his LAN switches --> Ciscoworks.

Hello,

Neither Cisco or EMC supports the use of CiscoWorks with MDS switches. You need to use FM/DM or the CLI.

Thank you.

Thanks,

but

not supported doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work. My customer has CW to manage all LAN switches and wants to use that for MDS as well. So I would be pleased if anyone can tell me if it could work.

The commands and MIBs are pretty different - I'd be suprised if you found anything other than very cursory support for it. i.e. maybe it can poll and list some basic information, but management commands are pretty much guaranteed to not work.

Hello,

Some of the functionality may work but it isn't tested or supported by either company as I previously stated. The customer could try it to use if they wanted to at their own risk.

Thank you.
