Replace 4 switches update - Long wave SFP problem
Hello,
We decided to get assistance to replace the 4 Brocade 3800 switches to Brocade 5000s and called our supplier. We had a day's "workshop" and were told it would be straightforward.
The engineer came in but we fell at the first hurdle....changed the first switch but had a problem with the coloured Cisco GBICS and CWDM which connect our 2 sites. The port on the Brocade switch showed a failure. Tried a few things but eventually put the original switch back in (which works OK).
We thought it could be a license issue but the distance between sites is only 2KM, then we were told Brocades were not compatible with the CWDM. The fault is being investigated, but I just wondered if anyone out there could suggest what the problem is?
Thanks again

Brocade SFP's in a Cisco MDS don't work and I expect that Cisco SFP's in a Brocade don't work either.
Furthermore: you mention that you're using CWDM when the distance is only 2 km. Is that because you share the fiber with other data streams ? In that case you should be fine. In case you have a dedicated pair of fibers for your SAN switches a simple long wave SFP (not sure if it needs to be CWDM in a Brocade) should do the trick. No license needed when you only need to cross 2 km.
