Adding shelf to DD then Extend FS ...

Question

Hi there ..

Does anybody remember how log did it take to expand file system after adding shelf ?

say adding ES30 , then gave register lenience for capacity .... then issue # filesys expand .... << how long will it take ?

please advise me if anybody knows...

It is a bit longer, I didn't measure it. But I would say it is few minutes. I would say <5 minutes...

I actually got asked by customer about the duration...Also other products may take longer time for FS extension ...

I agree here - <5 minutes - not seconds generally.

I'm curious why you ask. I assume you know this is not a disruptive activity and you're not asking because you want to understand the outage time?

Or because you started one and it's taking a long time?

As you say, you do need to do the 'storage add enc...' and apply the 'shelf license' before 'filesys expand' but also, depending on model type and existing capacity, you may need also to apply an 'expanded storage' license and maybe add 'system memory' to add the storage.

If your DD is an extended retention model, take care to add the shelf to the correct tier --> active or archive (ER).
