Avamar / Data Domain in a VCE solution - Best Practices LACP or ifgroup

Hi community,

new to the community, so bear with me ...

Our brand new environment is being built as we speak and with it a few implementation questions on the network side.

Our DD4500 has 2x10G (one dual 10G ports) and we're going to make extensive use of DD boost with our Oracle DBs, hosted on v-blocks systems.

Everywhere I read/look, ifgroups seem to be the EMC best practice.

However, the VCE consultant who is installing our system is saying that the VCE standard is LACP.

I'd like to use ifgroups but I don't want to break any rules with VCE "standards" (why would they be different from EMC?).

Has anyone faced this dilemma?

Thanks in advance!

This forum is specific for Avamar. We can provide you best practices for Avamar and DD. But Im not sure what would be best practices if you are using Avamar+DD in a VCE solution.

Hello,

Please use following guide for best practices for Avamar-

https://support.emc.com/docu53937_Avamar-7.1-Operational-Best-Practices.pdf?language=en_US

Chapter 11 describes best practices for Data Domain with Avamar.

Since you are running backup on Avamar, I would recommend you to go through all sections of this guide.

I hope it would be helpful for you up to some extent

Regards,

Pawan

Thanks for your response. I was kind of expecting that unfortunately ... hard to find the information. Would you mind then providing the best practices for Avamar / DD in a non-VCE environment. ifgroups over LACP providing that we have only 2 ports ... thanks for your help!

The question of ifgroups vs. LACP only applies to communications between the client software and the Data Domain storage -- the Avamar Server does not support LACP and does not have a concept of ifgroups. You may wish to move this post to the Data Domain Support Forum as they may be able to give you a better answer there.

Thanks for this link. I actually went through this guide already. It doesn't say though what's recommended and why as regards to ifgroups over LACP ... any hints from that perspective?
