Connecting two Data Domains
Hi guys,
I am trying to seed one Data Domain to another by connecting them directly NIC to NIC, and I have some questions:
- Do I need a crossover cable?
- Can I connect from a 1G nic to a 10G nic?
- How do I make sure I replicate using that port on the source Data Domain
Thanks

Hi there,
· Do I need a crossover cable? – No, you shouldn’t need it to be a crossover cable.
· Can I connect from a 1G nic to a 10G nic? - Are you talking about a DD2500? Yes, you can connect between a 1000BaseT port (EthMa, b, c, d) and 10000BaseT port (ethMe, f) but they will run at 1Gbe. LC optical 10Gb to 1GB – no you can’t I’m afraid.
· How do I make sure I replicate using that port on the source Data Domain –
· There are a few ways but;
· Put the IP’s of these 2 ports (one from each DDR) into a separate subnet from the rest of your NICs, add a host file entry and configure the replication between them using that hostname;
· To associate the fully qualified domain name bkup20.yourcompany.com and the hostname of bkup20 with an IP address of 192.168.3.3:
· # net hosts add 192.168.3.3 bkup20.yourcompany.com bkup20
Then there is only one path it can use.
Maybe configure these direct ports as jumbo – mtu 9000.

Rats, still having issues... getting this:
(00:00) Replication initialize started...
(02:28) 0%: Replication: cannot connect to dd2500.my.company.com, No route to host
