DD660 OS reload
Hello, I have a DD660 and need to do a reload on the OS. Is there a DVD or USB that can be used for the OS reinstallation?
I really don't need any of the data on the unit, but would like to start fresh. Which is the latest OS supported by the DD660?
Thanks
Paul

Fan speeds are based on DD OS sensor level programming. If the fans are running high, then the temperature level is at a point where the OS feels the fans should be running in a high state to keep the system cool.
Changing BIOS settings from the default values is not supported or recommended by EMC. With that disclaimer, I'll give you this info.
Do not change the Throttling mode in BIOS from Open Loop!!! It does nothing to help with fan speed and changed some sensors to a fixed setting. It is not recommended by Intel or the system OEM and is highlighted many times in the OEM specs not to do that.
Setting the fan profile to acoustic mode is not recommended but can be done at your option. This will change the limits on certain MB sensors that help keep the system cool. Performance mode will turn the fans on at a different set point to keep the components from overheating. If you are not putting a large amount of data on the system and not pushing it's performance, acoustic mode may help quiet down the system.
Fan speed is controlled by DD OS and the Motherboard. Third party computer fans won't change anything.

USB version you need to request from support; though some people were exchange it over here at forum as well, but you wish to be safe. Compatibility with unit is mentioned in each release document of DDOS which you can find at support.emc.com pages.

For DD OD 5.4, the current GA code is 5.4.4.3. For DD OS 5.5, the current GA code is 5.5.0.9.
Both of these releases are not available as a USB image. You would need to open a support ticket for the DD OS 5.4 or 5.5 USB image and install that. Then upgrade that image with the appropriate GA code level that you wish it install on the system.
The DD660 appliance is supported in both DD OS 5.4 and 5.5 code versions

Than you both for answering me. I was able to obtain a copy of 4.9.3.1 and was able to reload the OS without any issues.
While a bit old, I am quite happy with the unit. Just curious, I saw a setting in the BIOS for the acoustics on the unit as it is a bit loud.
If there a settings to make the fans less noisy? All fans expect one are on high (fan 1 is on medium).
Perhaps I could buy the fans third party?

Ok, but they are on high when nothing is going on. Just after power on the unit sitting idle for 5 minutes and not user or load on the system results in the following:
sysadmin@wesdd0100# enclosure show all
Enclosure 1
Fans
Description Level Status
---------------- ----- ------
Mid-plane fan #0 high OK
Mid-plane fan #1 high OK
Mid-plane fan #2 high OK
Mid-plane fan #3 high OK
Mid-plane fan #4 high OK
Mid-plane fan #5 high OK
Mid-plane fan #6 high OK
Mid-plane fan #7 high OK
Mid-plane fan #8 high OK
Mid-plane fan #9 high OK
What I was referring about OEM fans was perhaps the existing ones are a bit wormed out and will be less noisy with new ones?
I will set the BIOS to acoustic as this is my home lab unit and will not be stressed like in a business setting.
Is it normal in the DD660 to have a beeeep while the unit is rebooting?
Thanks
Paul

Hmm, I can actually only set the Fan Profile in Open Loop, cannot be done with Closed Loop.
Throttling Mode: Open Loop
Set Fan Profile: Acoustic
Altitude: 300m of less
If I change it to Closed Loop all the options go away.
How do I read the temperature?
Thanks]

It's possible the existing fans are worn but I doubt there may be much difference. What are the temperatures you are getting from the midplane and other mb sensors?

weird, don't know how but the fan's came down a lot an the noise is very acceptable.
Will look into the fans as an option as perhaps that will also help a bit.
Pretty neat!!

DDOS 4.9.3.1 https://feedbackcentral.emc.com/callout/?callid=21A109FB914E451C88D04D506A9BD98D
From there you need to do the updates incrementally.

Paul
