General networking implementation questions !

Hello everyone,

Please bear with me as I am coming from a different backup product background and this is my first EMC implementation, Any input is much appreciated ;

Here is my configuration:

2 DD 6300 with :

  • DD 10 GBASE T IO MODULE 4 PORT
  • DD 16GBIT FC IO MODULE LC 2 PORT OPTION
  • DD 10 GBE IO MOD OPTICAL FC OPTICAL SFP 4PORT OPTION    x 2

Networker VE hosted on vMware

Due to customer's constraints we are going all IP, no FC for now

The initial concept is to spare 1 link for management, 1 link for replication, and dedicate all remaining links to the Networker VE node while using DD Boost (through ifgroups), subsequent direct backups through FC for stand alone boxes may follow.

I am short of ideas how to implement this, mainly how to partition/dedicate the links, any advice is welcome, Thanks !

I don't dedicate interfaces for management,  management traffic is so low i don't see the point.

On my DD9500 i have 2  x 4port 10 GBE SFP cards.  Let's say card one is in slot 1 and card two is in slot 4.  So my network interfaces are listed as such:

1a

1b

1c

1d

and

4a

4b

4c

4d

I created an LACP interface using port 1a and 4a (each port is connected to different Nexus 5k switch). Then ports 1b,1c,4b,4c are port of an ifgroup.  I left port 1d and 4d for future expansion or replication needs.

Hi,

I would recommend to implement as following:

  • DD 10 GBASE T IO MODULE 4 PORT: 2 ports in failover for management + 2 ports in lacp for replication
  • DD 16GBIT FC IO MODULE LC 2 PORT OPTION: for VTL or DFC
  • DD 10 GBE IO MOD OPTICAL FC OPTICAL SFP 4PORT OPTION    x 2: all ports in lacp for service backup
