How do you backup MySQL databases to Data Domain?
Answer: BoostFS! You can use the new BoostFS plug-in to store your MySQL backups on Data Domain systems or DDVE. To determine the best backup application for BoostFS with MySQL, three different backup tools were tested with BoostFS: MySQL Enterprise Backup, MyDumper, and Percona Xtrabackup.
For each tool, we measured the write performance in comparison to NFS. Write figures are based upon multiple DBMS backups with a change rate of 10%, with compression disabled.
BoostFS ingest performance (%) greater than NFS
Backup Application |
MySQL Enterprise Backup* |
Mydumper** |
XtraBackup* |
Single |
30% |
35% |
25% |
Multiple |
N/A |
50% |
40% |
Observations: MySQL EB has enterprise features but writes are single threaded, mydumper performed well but has limited functionality. Percona's XtraBackup had the best combination of features and performance.

Hi Philip!
What about a comparison for us on Windows platforms? We use Idera SQLSafe and I'm curious to see how it performs.
Thanks!

Karl,
BoostFS for Windows in planned for a future release. Does Sidera SQL support Linux? If so, we can help them validate their application with BoostFS.
What are the most popular applications developed on Sidera SQL?
