Hi Team,

Good evening.

I am new to Data Domain.I want to know the process to find out the below queries .

1.What are the speed of the active streams are written into the Data Domain via DDBoost (Rman or SQL).

2.What are the active streams connected via DDBoost.

3.What are datas stored in DD for a particular client.

4.Will it be possible to view these all via GUI ? if no , by any cirmustance by customizing as per customer need

5.Last but the not least DDboost architecture and best practice document .

Thanks in advance .........

  1. May depend on DD model.  Right now, with RMAN backups (thought I I use this via backup application) and DDBoost I see no issues achieving 350MB/s - 700MB/s using DD890.  When this happens, I know I'm hitting specific network profile so I can't say what is the max, but surely in my case it is not on DD side.
  2. Again, this depends on DD model.  Just search for specs of DD models you are interested in and you will find it.
  3. Well, you backup application or application itself should have this info (like RMAN catalog for example).  Who sent it there should be capable of knowing what it sent too as otherwise I can't see how restore will be done
  4. Using backup application yes.  Using only RMAN catalog - kind of.  Using DPA to combine data from RMAN catalog and DD - should do just fine.
  5. All available via support.emc.com...

Thanks for the reply Crvelin

This is for the DD7200 model .

So by any chance we are not able to view or know the speed the data has been written or read from the data domain ?

As a admin for data domain we cant view the files in data domain ,even we cant start restore for any application spefic restore !!!

It will be nice if you provide the link for docs in support.emc.com.

Thanks!!

If you are admin of DD box, then by now you should know that you can get performance stats from DD.  Some things you can see in general reports available via DD GUI and some you can extract (well, all) via CLI.  For example you asked about number of active ddboost sessions and you can see that via ddboost command (ddboost show connections) and so on.  To get everything you want, if doing it manually, you will need to pull it out from couple of locations.  Otherwise you can use some of monitoring tools doing it already.

As for docs, log to support.emc.com and you can use search (just type Data Domain and later on narrow down search results to docs and white papers) or you can go to support by product and select/add Data Domain.
