Real time alerting for DD question

What do people use, if any, for any real time alerting for disk space usage?  I know there are the Notification alerts you can setup which just alert on anything having to do with say the filesystem, but I don't see how you can customize anything for alerting that the file system has hit a particular threshold or thresholds.
