Just to be more specific , the DPA Installation Guide has a Chapter on Licensing this is in both DPA 5.6 and in the current version DPA 5.8.1 of the manuals/documentation.

DPA is licensed by the number of backup clients, or by backup capacity in the case of EMC Avamar and NetWorker.
