We are just a bunch of frustrated/anxious users. How do we actually get an official response from Dell? Has anyone still with warranty contacted them about this?

BIOS downgrade is "allowed" in my BIOS settings as well- still get the "BIOS update blocked due to unsupported downgrade"

...And still no response from DELL   ...wow

I've held my breath with so many BIOS upgrades with the XPS 13, I thought finally Dell had a product that wouldnt need constant updates especially to the BIOS. Dont know of any other device that's had so many BIOS upgrades in less than 2 years. This is the last Dell I'll ever purchase, pathetic.

Having the same issue here, Xps 13 9350 continually crashing, and telling me every piece of memory hardware needs to be replaced even tho I can occasionally boot (if the memory wasn't working at all I wouldn't be able to boot)

@Brade G , I'm curious what BIOS version you have installed, that led to this problem?

Thankful I also purchased a CHROMEBOOK which works great & doesnt have issues with basic updates like Dell has! No excuse for releasing such a **bleep** up BIOS update!

Shame on Dell, and Microsoft, and Intel.  They've all made my life a living **bleep** this last week with all their untested updates.  Blowing up software across the board.

Same issue: XPS 13 (9350) "BIOS update blocked due to unsupported downgrade"

Hey fellow sufferer,

I'm having the same problem with my XPS 13 9350. I installed Bios version 1.6.1 a couple of days ago and now I can't install the newly provided Bios. At least my PC is still working but how could they release an update without any quality checks!?

Anyway Windows now wants me to install another Bios which - as we all know - can't be installed due to downgrade restrictions. But perhaps Microsoft / Dell already fixed the newly provided update so that we can install it by now (perhaps they just changed the version to 3.6.2 to get rid of this restriction).

Did someone tried to install the recommended Bios during the last days to see if it's working now? :-) I'm not manly enough to try it myself since I'm still able to use my PC...

Greetings

@Madtown Tom I find neither of those links work.  I get an error message of "An invalid set of parameters has been specified in the url."

Hopefully you can fix that as they look interesting.  Thanks.

UPDATE: I was able to find one of the links which is here.   Also, following a link in that thread I found this info from a Computerworld article which others may find helpful:

Dell has a consumer-oriented description of its recall here and an Enterprise description here. On the consumer side, the recall says:

Dell is advising that all customers should not deploy the BIOS update for the Spectre (Variant 2) vulnerability at this time. We are removing the impacted BIOS updates from the web and suspending further BIOS updates for affected platforms.

If you have already applied the BIOS update, please wait for further information and an updated BIOS release, no other action is recommended at this point. Please continue to check back for updates.

Unlike HP, it appears as if Dell isn’t going to fix its error by re-issuing older firmware. If you’re running a Dell machine, and got suckered into installing new BIOS/UEFI software, you can just wait and see.

In this thread - Dell community thread re BIOS  an Inspiron user provided this link: computerworld.com article 3250297

A Dell moderator replied to a message, apparently they have so far decided to not reply to any messages in this XPS 13 thread.

Add me and my XPS 13 (9350) here in the UK to the list! (bios currently 1.6.1, Win 10 Home v 1709)

First sighting of this problem today - lap top still working at present! Come on Dell - advice or class action needed!

It looks like the article from Dell can be more easily accessed at support.dell.com - enter service tag then click on "support topics & articles" & should be the 1st or 2nd listed. Yes that's the Computer World article I was trying to link to, thanks.
