Alerting questions
Version 3.5.0 (Build 60)
1. I added my esxi hosts via idrac discovery to OpenManage.
2. I set up an alert policy to email me whenever there is a warning or a critical issue.
Is the above enough so that I will be emailed? Or do I need to configure snmp on the esxi idrac end and in the openmanage end? I was hoping snmp is not required and that the idrac is enough for openmanage to monitor and send alerts?
Lastly, how can I generate a test email from OpenManage so that I know it is able to send?
No Events found!

I'm not sure that is relevant to my question. I'm using openmanage enterprise, not server administrator. I don't have the issue of not having a "from field" as this person had.
I'm just asking if there is more I need to do beyond setting up an alert policy which says to email me if a warning or critical event happens? It seems there is, because we had an outage a few days ago and an idrac itself on one my servers emailed me, but openmanage enterpise did not!
I don't even see a way to test it.

Hello,
Thank you for clarifying the product from the OpenManage portfolio you have. I'd refer you to the User's Guide. I've linked the section that details alert configuration, but there is additional information there, as well. You'll want to review your process, but also your alert policies. Overall, the process should look much like you described.

There is no way to easily test smtp. This has been a common request (Dell? Are you there?) in these forums. And of course, there was an easy way to do this in OMEssentials via the 'Test' button provided.
In order to get alerts, OMEnt has to be aware of the alerts/events, which means that OMEnt has to receive the info from respective devices via SNMP. On your appliance, if you go to Alerts > Alert Logs, do you see any events logged? These are the events that would trigger emails based on your alert policies.
HTH.

Did you get your issue resolved?
Similar thing. OME setup with SMTP and it sends the notifications about discovery and other stuff. But when iDRAC reports the hardware failure, OME doesn't send anything. The alert is registered with OME and all alerts under iDRACs/OME sections are selected in the alert profile

Hi, to deliver it by email, you must use OME. Hope that helps.

Yes, OME is configured with smtp and informational alerts about OME tasks are getting delivered. But when the server hardware fails, OME doesn’t send this alert out.

Hi, would you be able to test with this?

What tests to do there? In the Remote Box tab, there is no SMTP test.

Also, you need to make sure that the device in question is in the Alert Action profile for emails on OME.

Thank you Chris. All have been double checked.
The alert policy is set with all checks in the iDRAC and in the OME categories. Severity is also set to All. The PE servers are discovered via iDRACs.
Should i create a ticket with the OME team?

Hi, if you have a valid support contract you may contact the traditional support teams (phone etc.), if you wish.
We may also contact specialized OME support teams on your behalf, but without knowing your support contract the options are limited to basics.
You may send me the Service Tag of the device associated with your OME installation in a Private Message. Then I can check if we can engage OME experts.
In the meantime, why don’t you check this article: https://dell.to/2SbQgaO - it contains videos and information you may find useful.

Hi, my apologies for that last remark, was looking something else. Please ignore it. And yes we have received your ST through DM as well.
For your case: you could continue writing down in the thread what you are doing and but we have learnt that at this point actually the best course of action for the troubleshooting is for you to call in, would you be able and willing to do so? If not -though it may take longer and less efficient- we will continue to assist you here. Please let us know. Have a good day.
