Automatically clear alerts when normalized
Is it possible for OME to automatically clear alerts once the condition has returned to normal?
If not, how can we suggest or request this as a new feature?
There really should not be any user action required to clear an alert which is transitive or has been resolved.
For example: rebooting a device causes an alert, and the alert should automatically clear when the host is reachable.
Or, a non-compliant device creates an alert, and the alert should automatically clear when the device is made compliant.
Having to constantly delete alerts for past events is not how I want to spend my time.
Thanks

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell. I'm afraid it's not possible and even if it's possible, it wouldn't be advisable at all turning off the alarms for hardware issues. Sorry I can't be of help this time, have a great one. ^^

I didn't say hardware alarms should be turned off.
I said any alert should clear when normalized. Huge difference.
Regardless it seems there is no interest in improving the product in this way.
Thanks

I confirm, it is not possible to clear.
Maybe this conversation can be interesting to you

Has Dell added this feature to Open Manage yet? Our support team is sorting through endless noise caused by power shutdowns and fluctuations. It would be an excellent feature for Open Manage to remove the alert once the problem has normalized. This way efficiency is improved when finding the real hardware problems from alerts. I know this feature is available in other Server Management platforms, has Dell added it since this original post? Also, I read the suggested article, it just explains how to delete/archive useless alerts.
Thanks,

Stearnzee,
I don't see it as a feature that would be added, as implementing something like that would do more harm than good, as there are a number of issues that can arise from alerts automatically clearing themselves out. For example, take the scenario where you have an alert happening that has been cleared before you see it because it happens too quickly,. now it happens more and more until the component hard fails, .locks up the device, or something else. In that case the clearing of it without you knowing can be detrimental.
Also I think a page that would be better suited for what you are looking for is the Device Health page though, as it is real time, instead of the alerts page.
Let me know if this helps.

Hello Chris,
I hear what your saying, because that makes sense when there is a problem with the server, which usually doesn't go away on it's own, bu if it did then you would want to know. I am talking about situations that are independent of the servers operations; for example, network connectivity is lost because of a switch/router that trips an alert that the server is unreachable, later the network is repaired by the network team but the error is still indicated in the alert log. Or Power on one of the redundant circuits cause one of the Server Power supply to look like it is faulty, but following a circuit breaker fix, both Power supplies show as online, but alert still indicates a problem. The default behaviour of Open Manager Alerting could remain as it is now; but as a customer who knows their environment, it would be nice to have a configurable option in the software IMO. Stearnzee
