Best practice configurations

What is the recommended config for OoB or iDRAC connected servers?

So for example, is it optimal to install/configure snmp, ssh, OMSA and ISM on each server and discover using iDRAC (wsman/redfish), ssh and snmp all?

I want to ensure I'm getting not just firmware updates, but all available driver updates, as well.

What component is responsible for enumerating driver versions and update availability?

TIA

Hi, justin gray, from what I hear what you need is OME. It should be able to help you what you want to achieve.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the confusion -I think my post wasn't very clear. I am running OMEnt.

My issue stems from under the Firmware/Driver Compliance reports.  It seems that my in-band servers show only driver updates (with quite a few showing, "Update file not in catalog") but no firmware information (installed or available either one). Conversely, my out-of-band servers only reflect firmware installed and/or available.

My question is, what do I need configured on all devices to show both installed/available firmware and drivers for all systems.

It seems that the plug-in referenced in your link is intended more for creating custom repositories?

Hello justin gray,

DELL EMC System Update utility will update firmware and drivers. You can find it on the support page for the particular server and it installs in the host OS.  OME needs DSU/Inventory collector installed on the node and running the Collect Driver Inventory will install it automatically for you

Check out the Dell EMC OpenManage Enterprise support videos play list:

Review the Configuration Compliance Baseline Management,  : https://dell.to/3cDIEox

Direct from Development tech note summarizes the configuration compliance baseline feature and describes best-practice methods to get the most out of the feature.

Check Support matrix : https://dell.to/3r2srl2

Confirm if the system can be:

Discovered and inventory

Monitored and device alerts

Manage device firmware

Managing device configurations and deployment

Issue #1 No firmware updates for in-band servers: After re-reading the User Guide, I understand that OMEnt can only update drivers for in-band servers (no iDRAC).

Is there any way to find/apply firmware updates to in-band servers using OMEnt?

Issue #2 No driver updates for out-of-band servers: Servers discovered by iDRAC only show firmwares

So to get both driver and firmware updates presented, do I have to discover each server twice? Once out-of-band and once in-band?

Hello justin gray,

You have that correct:

To perform Windows driver update, ensure that the Windows servers are discovered in-band using the supported

protocol. To update both drivers and firmware, you must additionally discover the servers out-of-band using iDRAC.
