Best practice templates

Hello,

I'm fairly new to templates and profiles in OME.

We've got following task to solve:

The OS of our servers are deployed with pxe on a local disk and we have to set a specific vlan in the network section

of the template for this to work.

After the deployment of the OS the vlan has to be set another, production, vlan. As far as I can see, we have to set up a singular template for each server and change the vlan in this template after deploying to the "production" vlan. Or does anybody have a better solution?

By the way, we're using identity pools, so if we unassign the first template to deploy a second, with the prod vlan, we lose our virtual mac and wwwn.

best regards

Chris

My first idea was to setup two templates with the different vlans, but the unassignment of the first template destroys the virtual identities (mac/wwwn) from the identity pool.

Hello Chris,

OME Identity pools were not really designed with this use case in mind.

The only way not to lose the virtual identities is to Edit the template after deployment.

You may consider another option; keep the VLAN out of the template process completely.  Configure it via RACADM CLI in OME or some other method where the template itself is not what tracks it.
