cannot discover switch with only ssh

I have two Dell 5248 switches and recently installed OME 4.0.1 build 29. I dont want to use SNMP to discover my switches, so in the discover, I select Network Switch, I give it the IP of the switch, then in "additional settings" I deselect "Discover using SNMP" and populate the SSH info and click Finish. The job runs and instantly fails. if I use SNMP and SSH, it works just fine. The networking is set correctly, I can ping the OME VM from an outside source so I know the GW is working. It would be nice if OME had a ping test screen so that we can confirm that OME can ping out to a specific IP address (in this case, the GW).
