Deploying OpenManage Server Administrator through OpenManage Enterprise?

Hello,

Is there anyway to deploy OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) through OpenManage Enterprise? With OpenManage Essentials this was possible via the Remote tasks feature. In OpenManage Enterprise, I looked at the Update Manager plugin and the Dell Repository Manager application but didn't find a viable way.

Any help is appreciated.

Srqcc,

There isn't a way to deploy OMSA through OM Enterprise. The reason you could with OM Essentials was due to its inability to talk to the iDrac on the server, so you had OMSA installed at the server to talk to the iDrac for Essentials. Where as OM Enterprise talks directly to the iDrac, so OMSA isn't required.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the explanation and is understood. Is there a Dell sanctioned way of deploying OMSA updates and OMSA patches to multiple systems?

Hello @srqcc,

Sorry, what to do you mean with OMSA updates and patches? Do you mean new OMSA versions? When the application gets updated.

Thanks in advance for your answer.
Regards.

Diego,

That is correct and application patches that need to be done (ex- OMSA 9.5 currently has a patch available).

Yes, Chris, but let's say then that you didn't have Essentials or Enterprise. Does Dell have a sanctioned method for keeping OMSA up to date on 200 servers?

You wouldn't be able to with OMEnterprise, OM Essentials is the only Dell tool that does it. As OMSA isn't something relied on now.

That is a difficult answer, even though Essentials can technically do it, OMSA isn't easily updated. It can be problematic updating, such as with the webserver it won't be edited, so going from old to new can cause it not to launch. That is the reasoning that we recommend when updating OMSA to fully uninstall the existing version and then install the new version clean.
