Locked out

So it seems that something has gone wrong in the product as it's no longer accepting the admin password.  I find no way to correct this.  I had assumed that the text console on the server would allow for some override being physical access, but this seems to not be the case.  If a problem like this can occur that bricks the whole server and you have to throw it away and start over, that's a pretty serious issue.

Are you able to login from a browser with a different IP address?

There are settings in Application Settings | Security that allow some control over the lockout policy. If you are able to log in from another IP you may review those. The default lockout penalty is 900 seconds. If you feel the account was locked out inappropriately, it might be good to call support and open a ticket so the support team can get a closer look.

Thanks,

Rob

I think you misread my post.  I could not log in from anything, including the appliance itself.  This is not a lockout timer, it is the password on the root account no longer worked, so the appliance is now a brick.  There needs to be a way from the appliance text based sitting in front of the VM interface to access the system in such a situation.  With no master reset or override, the whole thing just gets thrown away and you have to start over from scratch.  Obviously the question of WHY the root password no longer worked is a significant issue as well.

I'd argue that how is this any different from many other VM appliances if the administrative credentials are lost?

I agree with you that if the known admin credential suddenly stops working then there is a bug that needs to be investigated, but a means to override the admin account is just asking for trouble from a security perspective, regardless of where the entry point is be it VM Console or otherwise.

Same issue happened at startup of new server~ terribly worried that after I reimage this issue may occur again. Password worked- then did not. Is there any way to reset the password settings so there is another way in after I reimage. This would not be okay if I had set up our entire office on this server and I was denied access.

Hmmmm, I think we need to see if you can open a support ticket so we can take a closer look.

Were you able to log in from a different machine (diff IP?)?

Are you still able to access the appliance via the TUI (Text User Interface) from the console interface?

Thanks,

Rob

I'll put the support phone number here, but I need to enter it in a goofy format since this forum software strips out a lot of numbers.
