OpenManage TUI looping

Hi

I tried to install Dell OpenManage Enterprise 3.5. However, I can't go through the TUI setting. When I finished the setting and restart the service or reboot the Appliance, it go back to the TUI interface again, can't go to the next step. Can any one tell me what is reason?

I tried to install it in Hyper-V both under Windows 10 1909 and Windows server 2012 R2. Got the same issue.

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

By saying it goes back to the TUI interface, is the setup of passwords and IP address did not retain? Or you're still in console mode of OME? After setting up the IP of OME and reboot appliance, are you able to ping the IP? If yes, are you able to access the OME GUI via the IP?

Let me know if this helps.

Hello Joey

Sorry for the late replay. I finally can ping the IP and access GUI through IP. However, I can't register IP to DNS. I also can't add this VM to our Domain. Since all our servers are in the Domain, I cannot discover the servers from OME. Could you please help?

Thanks

Dalong

It sounds like you are referring to it failing to do the option to Register on DNS, which can happen in some environments. If you discover servers by hostname instead of IP you need to include the domain in the name of the OM Enterprise server in the TUI. What you can also do is make a manual DNS A record for it.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello Chris,

As you said, TUI doesn't allow me to register on DNS. I also use the server IP for discovering, it also failed.

Hello Chris

In the TUI network interface setting, "Register with DNS" can't be checked. In DME web console, there is no way to configure Network setting

You should be able to in TUI if you include the domain in the name of the OM Enterprise server.

Hi Joey

No. I currently installed v3.5 Hyper-V version. Do you think lower version will help?

Thanks for help

Hi,

Have you tried installing a lower version of OME appliance, such like 3.4?

Hi,

I would like to know the root cause, I'm unsure if the version would be it. The installation seems to be straightforward. Let's try a lower version to check on the issue.

I found that port and protocols are needed for the appliance to run properly, have you looked into it? https://dell.to/3lDYtyi. Have you open the required ports for the appliance IP?

I have installed V3.4. Still have the same issue as V3.5. There is no way to register in DNS in TUI setting. For the protocol and ports, I have open them in the management station and node. However, I don't have option to open appliance.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. Have you tried disabling IPv6 and see if you're able to enable DNS registration?

Could you try the onscreen keyboard to check if any difference?

The IPv6 is disabled by default. However Hyper-V console doesn't have on on-screen key board.

Hello dwang_01,

If you hit the 'Window' key on your keyboard and type "osk"  does that bring up the onscreen keyboard?

Can you check the user guide, linked below, and see if these conditions were followed?

Configure Server Initiated Discovery  -  Select Configure Server Initiated Discovery to allow the appliance to automatically register the required records with the configured DNS server.

NOTE:

Ensure that the appliance is registered with DNS, and can dynamically update records.

The target systems must be configured to request registration details from DNS.

To change the DNS Domain Name, ensure Dynamic DNS registration is enabled on the DNS server. Also, for appliance to be registered on the DNS server, select the Nonsecure and secure option under Dynamic updates.

Hello

Thanks for the information. I can enable on-screen key board, but I still can't enable Register in DNS. Also without Register in DND, Configure Server Initiated Discovery doesn't go through.

Thanks for help.

Hello dwang_01,

In the TUI you should be able to press Enter to select an option. The Space bar switch the status of a check box. Not a mouse click.

See if that works for Register in DNS.

I also notice in the screen shot you posted, Enable IPv6 has an 'X' as enabled. Select that and space bar to disable.

It's strange you can type in the other fields but cannot space bar to unselect options.

If you are unable to make that selection that way please let us know.
