Remote console on iDRAC 8.5
Hi all, I have a PE R420 with iDRAC V 8.5 which only supports 'Native' or 'Java' clients. I can't get a remote console to work using any web browsers. Has anyone been able to get a remote console on this version? How? Version 9.10 which is on another recent PE server supports 'HTML5' and that works fine with Google Chrome. Do I need to upgrade the iDRAC software? Where do I get it from? Thanks for any comments, Paul

Hi Paul,
The R420 has an iDRAC7 module installed in it the latest firmware version is 2.61.60.60. You can find it here: https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER05297060M/1/iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_VYGMM_WN64_2.61.60.60_A00.EXE
You'll want to be sure that you are on iDRAC firmware 2.10.10.10 or later before updating this first. If not, you'll need to update the iDRAC and lifecycle controller to 1.66.65 and 1.4.2 first.
Also, the remote console is a feature that is exclusive to the Enterprise licensed iDRACs. You may want to double check that the iDRAC is identifying as having the Enterprise license. It should show when you login.

Hi Dylan & thanks for the reply. The web interface login (before login & after) shows "Enterprise" so I'm guessing the last concern you mention is not an issue. Can you tell me where I can check & update what you mention here:
"If not, you'll need to update the iDRAC and lifecycle controller to 1.66.65 and 1.4.2 first."
Thanks again,
Paul

The "Server Information" section of the screen after you login will have it. That is Over > Server > Properties tab
