If you are interested in running the system update feature, you might want to consider using WSMan rather than IPMI.

If you want to use IPMI, you can patch your servers via OMSA+SNMP on the Linux box. There should be an advanced setting in sys update to use OMSA as the preferred method.

Hi Rob,

Here i am using 11G serve and hope WSMan won't work...

I already isntalled OMSA + SNMP on my client machine and enabled IDRAC enabled on console...I could see advance setting OMSA is enabled state...Please advice how we will configure both OMSA+SNMP & IPMI alone for linux client.

I know how to configure OMSA+SNMP and want to know how to configure with IPMI..

Couple of things to clarify:

For health monitoring 11G servers only OMSA needs to be installed on each server. Make sure the SNMP community string on each server is same as what is entered in OME discovery wizard (SNMP configuration).

For deploying firmware and BIOS updates to these 11G servers, there are two options:

Using OMSA (supports deployment of firmware, BIOS and drivers).

Using iDRAC 6 (supports deployment of firmware and BIOS)

WSMAN should work on all the 11G servers. What version of iDRAC firmware and BIOS does the 11G servers have ?

It is best advised to discover iDRAC 6 on 11G servers using WSMAN. IPMI is another alternative but with limited capabilities (no health monitoring or deploying of updates).

To configure IPMI, make sure to enable "IPMI Over LAN" on each iDRAC is enabled and then discover the iDRACs from OME using IPMI protocol.
