OME Initial Setup
Dell,
I am currently in the process of setting up OME 1.3 on one of our environments and am loving it, so far.
I have a few questions as to one or two of the setup procedures.
1) Correct setup for a EMC CX4-120 (does it require fibre connectivity or just ethernet through the SP's)
2) Is it possible to write (via cmd/ps) to the OMSA Alert Log?
3) can OME pick up on Event Logs?
Any help would be awesome..
Thanks in advance.

Hi and thanks for the post,
I will try to answer your questions one by one.
1) It would be great if you can post this question on a general forum so that it can be answered correctly.
http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/f/
I am not sure on the EMC part
2) I did not clearly understand your question, If there is a command in OMSA command line then you can use OME to send commands through the remote task feature. There is an option called create command line task. See if that helps. You can find whitepapers on how to use remote task feature at http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/w/wiki/1989.openmanage-essentials.aspx
3) If you mean the hardware logs for the server, yes OME can. In the device tree, navigate to the specific server and then click on hardware logs tab which appears on the right hand side. If you want to receive SNMP alerts, then you will have to configure your server with trap destination to be set as OME IP. This way you will automatically receive SNMP alerts in OME.
Hope this helps

To Clarify.
2) I can run a PS script
Write-Eventlog -computername MyComputer -logname System -source Server Administrator -entrytype Warning -eventID xxxxx -message "Disk Drive 50% Full"
And in event viewer under the Administrative Events i will see the alert created.
I would like to use PowerShell to add a similar alert to the Hardware Log in OMSA.
3) I was wondering if OMSA/OME can pick up the Event Viewer SEL logs (so i can grab Application/System/Security warnings when they arise. I understand you can use Dell Support Assist, but that requires the internet in order to setup. I do not have the internet on any of my servers, so i cannot use this.

I am not really sure about the OMSA part if OMSA allows your to do that. It would be easier answered in the general systems management forum. You will find more OMSA guys there http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/f/
Although i suspect OMSA does not allow that. If OMSA allows that then OME will pick up that information for you.

Yeah, as Pupul mentioned, the General Sys Mgt forum is good for OMSA questions.
And remember you can see the SEL logs in OME via the Logs tab on the Device tree page.
Thanks much,
Rob

Yes, correct, SEL is just the logs via OMSA, not Event Log from Windows. Sorry I mis-understood that part of the question.
Thanks much,
Rob

Thanks for the help so far. I will post this message on the General Sys Mgt forum.
The SEL logs, or "Alerts" / "Hardware Logs", shows the information that has been captured/raised by OMSA, not the Event Log within Windows.
