Open Manage Essentials installation fails

I am trying to setup the OME first time on a dell PE2950 with windows 2008R2 sp1 , sql2005 sp4 but it fails without any much information except the even viewer has below error.

Did anyone else had gone through such problem.

Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Dell OpenManage Essentials. Product Version: 1.0.1. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Dell. Installation success or error status: 1603.

Hi,

Thanks for your post.

Are you using the pre-installed version of SQL? In that case, are you using custom installation option and pointing to the existing DB? You can look at "C:\Windows\Temp\InstallUtil.log" to see if there are any additional errors reported by the installer.

Hi,

Can you address Abhijit's question from above: Is this a pre-installed (existing) SQL install?  Or are you letting OME install SQL express?

Thx.

Thanks for the udpates. Are you using custom install option in OME and selecting the existing database or choosing the default?

You're putting SCOM _and_ OME on the same server?? :-)

Not related to the db error you mention (most likely).  But how much RAM & cores do you have on that 2950?

Can you also confirm if the account you are using has dbowner privileges for the SQL? OME needs dbowner privileges for installation.

Ok thx.

That should be ok as long as SCOM isn't taking any cycles.  UG shows 4GB and 2 core for 100 servers or less.

If other software is running on that server, you could get CPU bound, so take care.

thx

Thanks for the updates. It would be better to call support and they can look at all the logs. It would be good to verify that the account has db_create permissions and you might have to delete OMEservice user from the DB if you have one before trying to install again. Here is the number for support 800-945-3355
