PowerConnect 2716 in OpenManage essentials

I have a PowerConnect 2716 it is listed in OpenManage essentials as unknown. Is there any way to get OM to recognize the switch? I know according to the support matrix the 2700 series of switches are not supported but wat is the best way to enter it into the OpenManage essential system so it at lest sees it as a switch?

Unfortunately there is no easy way to make an unsupported device show up as a switch in OME. It will be under Unknown device group.  You can import the MIB for this device using "MIB IMport" utility and receive traps. Look for "MIB Import" icon on the desktop to launch the tool.

Have you tried using troubleshooting tool to identify the device ?

Recieved more info...

27xx series is an old but supported switch by Dell. However do note that the 27xx series of switches are only “web managed” and there is no native SNMP support on it.

Some additional information on the dell support forum --

---------------

The 27xx is "web managed" only there is no SNMP for it.  When it say RMON it is really referring to RMON statistic counters.  You can use the web interface to view these counters.  There is no plan for SNMP support in the 27xx series.

This switch is meant to be just one step above unmanaged - so it is lightly managed - meaning you can setup VLAN, LAG, etc using the web interface.  It is not meant for enterprise level application.  It is a "cheap" and "lightly managed" switch.

If you want a fully managed switch with SNMP, CLI, Web look at the 3xxx, 5xxx or 6xxx series.
